Learning Support

Clear, Visual, One-on-One Explanations for Complex Topics

Whether you're a high school student trying to turn your grades around, a university student working through a tough prerequisite, or a pre-med preparing for the MCAT, I offer structured, personalized sessions that go beyond memorization. My goal is for you to actually understand the material and feel confident using it.

About Me

University of Toronto, Master’s of Science in Biomedical Communications, Class of 2024

I have 8+ years and hundreds of hours of tutoring experience across high school and university-level science and math. My background includes formal training in evidence-based teaching through the Peer Learning Program at Mount Royal University, Teaching Assistant roles at the University of Toronto across cell biology, anatomy and physiology, and digital learning environments, and a Master of Science in Biomedical Communications (UToronto) — a graduate degree built around explaining complex science and concepts clearly and visually.

I scored in the 92nd percentile on the MCAT (516) and offer specialized preparation for students pursuing health sciences, including support with the accommodations application process.

End-of-term TA evaluations at U of T show 85–95% of students agreed or strongly agreed across preparation, enthusiasm, feedback quality, and overall performance.

What to Expect

Screenshot of an online physics lecture or study notes titled 'Physics 30' with handwritten notes, equations, and highlighted text on a digital whiteboard or note-taking app.

Example of the work done with a student, Physics 30 from the Alberta curriculum in this case. All students get a PDF copy of written notes after sessions.

Sessions are calm, structured, and paced around you. I use a digital whiteboard so we can work through problems together in real time, and you'll receive a PDF of every session's notes and worked examples to review afterward.

I also offer accountability / body-doubling sessions — a focused co-working format where I sit with you as you complete your own work, helping you stay on task and build momentum. This format is particularly effective for students with ADHD or anyone who struggles to follow through when working alone.

I have extensive experience supporting neurodivergent learners, including students with ADHD, ASD, and OCD, and I apply Universal Design for Learning principles in how I structure and pace sessions. A secondary school teacher specializing in disability support has described my approach as "academically rigorous and emotionally safe."

What Students and Parents Have Said

"Honestly, probably one of the best TAs I've ever had. He never failed to ensure that all questions were explained in detail, and his enthusiasm encouraged everyone else to be more enthusiastic as well."

- University of Toronto student evaluation, BIO206

"Brendan is an outstanding tutor for my son, who has ADHD. During the sessions my son is noticeably more comfortable, less shy, openly communicative, calm and productive — qualities that are sometimes challenging for him in other settings."

- Parent of a long-term student

"He explained everything in a way that made it very easy to understand and remember."
